Food Photography

I organized a food photography shoot with another camera club member.  We set up two lighting areas.  One in the living room using a light box with a Nikon SB-28 Speedlight.  The other set up was in the kitchen with one SB-28, a 60″ umbrella and a large reflector.  I unfortunately did not shoot much with the light box.  I did help the members use the lights.  But I should be modest since it is so easy to make soft light with these setups.

You can see some great shots from the meetup here.

It was the most fun (and longest) I’ve had at a meetup.  After the meetup we ate the food (well the food we did not touch)

A big thing I learned about food photography is that collecting the props is a full time job.  Ramya (the cook and co-host) said collecting dishes and props can become an obsession.  Without her great help we would have never pulled off these shots so easy   🙂

I was shooting with a Nikon 85mm 1.8 with the 60″ umbrella setup.  Here is my favorite.

  1. I have no skills in the food photography realm. Actually, I have almost no skills in any kind of shooting that requires setting up a still life scene. I’m so much better with the natural world and with people. You, on the other hand, have done well here. Better than I could hope to manage.
